With Our Own Feet
March 13, 2009Stephen Thomas No Comments »We must all walk the Path of life with our own feet. This means that each of us, until we draw our last breath must live our lives using our best instincts and motivations. There is an old Native American saying about walking in another man’s moccasins. The idea is that we should never criticize someone unless we know just how it feels to be that person. It is a nice saying, but none of use can walk someone else’s Path. It is impossible.
So what do we do with this knowledge? Many things! First and foremost, we cannot wait for someone else to do it for us; whatever it is. So many want someone else to carry the burden, do the hard work, make the plans. It isn’t possible. We can learn from others and take their advice and counsel, but we cannot have them do it for us.
The next thing we must do is plan our walk. No one else can tell us what needs to be done with the clarity of insight as to what it means to be us, than us. Someone can tell me that I would be wise to take a certain course of action, and they may be right, but I must plan it out and I must carry out the plan. How many of us have had plans shoved down our throats by a boss or parent that we refused to do or were unable to do? It has happened to us all! We need to make plans for each and every day of our lives. What we will do, who we will talk to, and what will be accomplished at the end of the day.
No one can walk the Path of our lives for us. We must all walk the Pat with our own feet, put each step in front of the other. We must all live as we are determined to do. There is no other way.
